What is a Visa Prepaid Card?
The Visa Prepaid card is a reloadable Visa card* you load with money to use everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. You can pay bills, shop online and off, get direct deposit, and more. No credit check or prior bank account is typically needed – simply sign up, add money, and start using it. Go open a new world with Visa Prepaid.
As a pre-paid card, it has its own built-in spending limit, set by how much money is loaded to the account and how frequently.
How does a prepaid credit card work?
Because it is a prepaid card, spending limits are set by the amount of money you load onto the card. When you make a purchase with the prepaid credit card, the purchase amount is deducted from the card balance. You can add more money on a regular basis or whenever the money runs low. That's easily done by transferring money from the a checking account or your own regular credit card.
It is a way of carrying cash with a lower risk. You can access your balance through ATMs.
Benefits of a prepaid credit card:
A prepaid credit card account is opened by depositing money into that account, much in the same way you would make a deposit to open a checking or savings account. Once the money has been deposited, the account holder is issued a physical credit card that can be used in the same transactions in which regular credit cards are permitted. Perhaps the best part of the prepaid credit card is that spending cannot go so far as to send the account holder into debt. The purchasing power of that card is limited to the amount of the security paid upfront in order to secure and use the card. Furthermore, because of the security deposit required, bills are unnecessary and interest charges or late fees aren't possible. In this respect, prepaid credit cards are similar to debit cards linked to a savings or checking account.
